The structures of Bolgatanga Technical Institute were started originally for a West African Secretarial College but later converted into a Technical Institute. The Institute came into being in May, 1985 as a result of the realisation that the only technical institute at Bawku was inadequate to solve the skills acquisition demand of the then Upper Region.
